  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tsp lemon juice)
  • 3 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for optional glaze)
  • 23 tbsp milk or cream (for optional glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (for optional glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for optional glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix well.
  4. Gradually alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Fold in diced apples gently.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
